  • Contact your district or neighborhood HOA to ask about move-in time restrictions – many sections of The Villages limit moving trucks to specific hours, often between 8 AM and 5 PM on weekdays
  • Ask about designated loading and unloading zones – in many villa-style communities within The Villages, trucks cannot park in front of the home and must use a designated area
  • Get confirmation in writing (email is fine) so you have documentation if any questions arise on moving day

  • Confirm water and trash service with Sumter County or Marion County depending on your address

Packing Priorities

  • Pack an essentials box last – keep it with you, not on the truck. Include medications, phone chargers, one set of bedding, toiletries, and important documents like your deed or lease
  • Label boxes with the destination room in The Villages home, not just contents
  • Disassemble bed frames, entertainment centers, and large shelving units you want to reassemble in the new home

The first week in your new Villages home involves a few community-specific tasks beyond standard post-move errands.

  • Register your golf cart with The Villages Golf Cart Registrar – required for legal operation on cart paths and district roads. You will need proof of insurance and your registration
  • Get your Recreation ID, which gives you access to recreation centers, pools, and amenities throughout The Villages. First-time residents need to visit a Recreation Services office in person
  • Update your Florida driver’s license address – state law requires this within 30 days of moving
  • Introduce yourself to your street or neighborhood liaison if your section has one – The Villages has an active community network and your liaison is a useful resource
  • Register for The Villages amenity programs and any fitness or activity clubs you are interested in joining
